About us

Activities

The main activity of the company Pelicon d.o.o. is the purchase and sale of cows, bulls, and heifers for slaughter. Most of them are sent to nearby Italy and Austria, where we have developed excellent and solid business partnerships over the years. In addition to cooperating with companies from EU countries, we also export to Lebanon via Luka Koper. We also perform the slaughter of cows and bulls in Slovenia; in this way, we have restored greater trust among Slovenian breeders. Each year, the company dispatches more than 9,000 head of livestock for slaughter, which represents over 6,500 tons.

The second part covers the operation with calves for growth. The company Pelicon d.o.o. offers the supply of quality and healthy livestock for further breeding at competitive market prices. We primarily supply calves and bulls for fattening from Latvia, the Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Ireland, and France. In recent years, we have also started purchasing Slovenian calves.

The third part of the operations of Pelicon d.o.o. includes the export and import of fresh and frozen meat. The largest share comprises beef and veal. The company also trades in pork to a lesser extent. It operates mainly in Italy, Austria, Slovenia, North Macedonia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The company ships more than 2,500 tons of fresh and frozen meat annually.

Own livestock feeding

In 2011, Pelicon d.o.o. expanded its operations with housing its livestock for further breeding - fattening. Thus, we have on average more than 1000 calves and heifers of Charolais and Limousin breeds under breeding.

Commodity reserves

In 2019, the company signed a contract with the RS Institute for Commodity Reserves, thereby assuming the obligation of long-term maintenance and renewal of the stock of the contractual quantity of young fattened cattle indefinitely.

History

The butchery tradition of the Pelicon family dates back to the beginning of the 20th century when Jožef "Pepo" Pelicon opened the first butcher shop in Šempas.

After the First World War, the tradition was continued by his sons until nationalization in 1955.

In 1998, Evgen Pelicon founded the current company Pelicon d.o.o. It grew from a local butcher shop into a successful international trade company for livestock and wholesale meat.

Today, Pelicon is an important player on the European market, maintaining a century-old tradition of quality.
